New this week!   - F 5 Finger Position  click for video(p. 21)  -Melodic Dictation!!! In class we started taking melodic dictation. I played a few musical notes, and the students had to listen and figure out what they were hearing, then decode how it should be written. We will continue developing this aural perception skill throughout the rest of the school year. Remember : showtime for Song of Joy next week. "Count to the beat til you finish the song...1,2,3,4...1 and 2 and 3 and 4 and".     Twinkle, Twinkle  (pg.22) : As we start to play this first theme, remind your student to stretch their right hand into the "Blue Chord" position to touch 'G' with finger 4, and 'A' with finger 5.   I'm so happy for your children! They've come so far in music and I will miss seeing you every week.  Thank you parents for your investment of time and money in your child's music journey.   I wish you many years of musical enjoyment with your child.   Summer is here and I really hope you enjoy the slower pace of life and maybe some fun family adventures.  We are headed on an East Coast road trip and hope to see some great sites and make some memories.  I would love for your kids to keep me updated on their summer fun! Text or email me pictures.  Here is a fun escape room created just for Let's Play Music graduates.  They will enjoy using their musical knowledge to complete it.   I'm here as a resource if you need help finding a Connections teacher.

In class each student introduced their song and played a small part.  It's best to memorize the speaking part (keep it short), and even memorize their song. Keep working to perform their composition to 3 different people (they must introduce their piece as well).  Turn in the completed Recital Practice Log for a special prize! Due before the recital, May 14th (see attached invite). Also our class will be SINGING the following songs: Making Musicians Do you know the lesson of the bamboo??  It is no coincidence that our 6th and final semester is called Orange Roots. This is not the end of your child's musical journey, we’ve built the roots for them to continue to grow every day in every way as a musician! By now, your child has attended at least seventy-five classes: 3,675 minutes of classroom instruction. You've found babysitters for siblings so you could be in class on parent week. You've arranged schedules and meal-times and errands so your child could get to all seven...

Next week is Parent Week and Showtime for Russian Sailor Dance.  Watch me play it along with the CD here! I'm super proud of the kids writing harmonic dictation (they can correctly hear the three primary chords and notate them on the staff!) As you know, our year end recital is May 14th at 3pm.  (Flyer and program attached) Our class is singing "Let's Find the Root".  Sing that along with the album as much as possible.   Compositions! practice, practice, practice.  Any edits need to be given to me by April 22nd. Also if you need help with Bagatelle Bridges, here's a quick video .  Making Musicians We are getting so good at playing our scales in F Major, G Major, and A minor. Check out  this fun video  to see what it would look like to play your scales with your feet!!!
